SieMatic Website 2007

In 2007 Trüffelschwein a multimedia agency in Bielefeld designed and developed a new website for the superior kitchen manufacturer SieMatic. The site was build on top of a self-made CMS, which was serving the content for multiple langugages. Automatic image generation in the background, composition of galleries and the ability of the CMS to store and edit different structured data helped to re-launch the site in one year of development. The site’s frontend consists of a pure HTML version and a more enhanced and animated Flash version. The data was delivered via REST Endpoints in JSON format to the client. The backend storage based on MySQL.

The Trüffelschwein team: Coding was done by Rainer Falkenroth and Birger Zimmermann. Design and Artdirection was done by Kristina Kipp and Stephan Bielfeldt. Text and content production Charlotte Wagner.

SieMatic received top honor in the category of “communication design” for its Web site homepage (www.siematic.com) in one of the world’s most renowned design awards, the Red Dot Award.

FPGA-based SOPC audio-platform with a configurable contol interface

From March to September 2008 development of a SOPC Audio-Platform with a configurable control interface:

Embedded audio applications, e.g. used as a warning system in the car or instruction system on machines, require special, locally dependent control and communication interfaces. These can be simple buttons or complex bus connections, like the CAN or LIN bus. To reduce the development effort for new systems. And to reduce costs, it makes sense to have the most flexible and configurable technical basis for a variety of applications.

Based on that idea a proof of concept was designed as a SOPC solution with only a small amount of required external hardware.

The platform provides functions for audio recording and playback in CD-quality. The optimized FAT file system implementation allows data storage on SD-cards. An integrated MP3 decoder can be used for multimedia application development. The programmable hardware (FPGA) programmed with a full featured system-on-a-chip provides a configurable control interface for different contexts. A jukebox reference application was built to proof the flexibility and capabilities of the developed platform. The application contains a graphical user interface and functions to play and recordaudio files. Specially designed IP-cores support the embedded soft-core processor in the communication with the peripherals. Custom instructions enhance the power of the processor for MP3-playback. In contrast to off-the-shelf components like MP3 decoder chips and micro-controller solutions, this platform provides a high degree of flexibility by using the FPGA technology. This enables cost effective and time optimized system design.

Abaqus GmbH Onlineshop

In 2005 development of an online-shop system for the multi media agency trueffelschwein in Bielefeld. The site was designed by Kristina Kipp and Stephan Bielfeldt. The software development was done by Rainer Falkenroth and Birger Zimmermann.

Technically the site based on a java web-application deployed on a Jboss application server with heavy usage of automated image processing and generation. Especially the aspect of pixel-exact and design-driven documents (PDFs), templated images and the visualization of product variants where technically sophisticated.
